You may notice on our website a fairly eclectic set of images, mostly pre-digital, some definitely pre my career start (which wasn’t yesterday)!
The wooden ampersand on our home page is one I purchased, along with a number of other large wooden blocks, from an antique shop while on a camping holiday in Jersey.
I’ve always had a love of type and letterforms and this was probably the first time I managed to acquire, something to look at and admire that made the appreciation of type a tangible one.
There is now a thriving market for vintage type, you only have to look on eBay or Facebook to see how popular wooden type is, but type of this size is still being used by a number of artisan printers and hobbyists around the country. Online there is an artisan interest in letterpress printing both for larger posters, where my ampersand would find a decent home, to quality stationery items.
Mine sits on my desk between my iMac and my Cintiq, now if that’s not representation of change I don’t know what is!
